Conferència del professor Xavier Cabré: Louis Nirenberg, 2015 Abel Prize for his contributions to the theory of PDEs

Títol: Louis Nirenberg: 2015 Abel Prize for his contributions to the theory of PDEs, a càrrec de Xavier Cabré.

Abstract

The Abel Prize for 2015 has been awarded to the American mathematicians John F. Nash, Jr. and Louis Nirenberg “for striking and seminal contributions to the theory of nonlinear partial differential equations and its applications to geometric analysis". We will present Louis Nirenberg academic and research trajectory, explain his achievements (and also those of Nash) within the theory of PDEs, and the consequences of Nirenberg's results in differential geometry and in analysis. We will present the main objects and ideas involved in the results in a quite elementary way.
